Fifa’s new world player of the year Filip Raducanu says he still feels unsettled after joining Marseille from Partizan Belgrade.
Raducanu has made six appearances for the French champions since his summer move.
“It’s been a big transition, but there is no big reason why I have not been able to adapt to life in France and Marseille,” the 28-year-old winger told Serbian magazine Futbol.
“The players have been nice and welcoming. I have also been able to train with the new group without the problem [of acclimatisation].”
In October, Raducanu handed a six-month ban for “illicit contact” with women under 18. He is currently serving the sanction after pleading guilty to charges of improper conduct.
This year, Raducanu became the first player from the Serbian league to win the Fifa world player of the year award.
He picked up his second domestic award in November, winning the Eredivisie footballer of the year award.
‘Small things’ concern Raducanu
Raducanu has scored two goals in six appearances for Marseille this season, all from the penalty spot.
He has admitted that he now feels the pressure to reach his former Partizan levels after enjoying a debut season in France that earned him the French Ligue 1 defender of the month award in October.
“I had a good year in Serbia last season, making 32 appearances and scoring seven goals,” he said.
“It’s very difficult to prove yourself with the more experienced players at Marseille because they’ve been at the club for many years and are already the favourite at the top.
“Since the beginning of this season I’ve been more motivated, but this kind of pressure doesn’t get to me.
“It’s very difficult to do what I did in Serbia in my new club because of the political situation in our country. I just need to work hard and stay focused on my goal: my best football days are still to come.”
